Tüfelsburdi - With the devil in the game

The Tüfelsburdi (Teufelsburde)
exists of three big granite blocks from the Val de Bagnes in Valais.
The today's name Tüfelsburdi was hewed in 1872 into the big
block (see picture gallery). In 1850 the team to Jahn still called
moor stone, on a rock sample he called them even druid's stone.
Natural stone layouts like the Tüfelsburdi drew the people
since ever and served them as cult sites and strength places.

One assumes from the fact that the remarkable blocks of the Tüfelsburdi
were a place of ritual actions at least since the Neolithic
Age. In 1848 shards of Celtic potteries and sound sculptures
as well as coal leftovers were found with excavations beside the
big block.
The legend
The old cult stones were brought in one or other way with the
devil in connection. In the case of the Tüfelsburdi the devil
should have collected the blocks to be founded a castle on the
Jolimont to be able to observe from there the Erlacher, Tschugger,
Gampeler and Galser. Which is why just they should be kept under
surveillance by the Gehörnten, the legend hides.
